What You Need to Know

The common house spider is responsible for the vast majority of cobwebs you find in your home. These tangled, messy webs appear in corners, along window frames, in garage rafters, and at ceiling junctions — anywhere the spider can stretch its irregular web to catch passing insects. When one web location doesn’t produce enough prey, the spider abandons it and builds a new one nearby, leaving the old web to collect dust. This is why cobwebs accumulate so quickly in homes with heavy spider populations, even with regular cleaning.

Common house spiders are completely harmless to humans. They rarely bite, and when they do, the effect is negligible. The real issue is cosmetic — heavy cobweb buildup makes a home look unkempt despite regular cleaning efforts. If you’re constantly clearing webs and they reappear within days, that’s a sign of a significant spider population sustained by an underlying prey insect problem. Professional treatment that reduces both spiders and their food supply will stop the web accumulation at its source. Contact Sanctuary Pest Control at 815-993-3472.
